Key to a Happy Home…

Look what I found on the Kaiser blog…..

“The Key to a Happy Home is Love” By Trudi Harrison

Kaisercraft Products: Pickled Pear Collection – P974 Fig, PP883 Paper Pad, CT735 Collectables; Merry & Bright SS158 Sticker Sheet, EM928 Lace, Paper Blooms F632 Sage

Other: Ink, Chipboard elements, buttons, MS border punch, Ribbon, Gesso, Ink, Glimmer Mist, Mod Podge
Trudi Says:

“The ‘key’ is one of new free standing home decor pieces released this month. As the key is sturdy and 18 mm thick there was plenty of room to accommodate a village effect that sits along the top of it.
The front of the key was first covered with the Fig paper. I found the easiest way to do this was to trace the shape onto the paper and then cut out. Mod Podge was used to adhere the paper to the key surface. The edges were then lightly sanded and inked.

The other surfaces of the key were painted with gesso – this was applied quite roughly for a distressed, shabby look. Some inking and misting was added.

Papers from the Pickled Pear Paper Pad were used to alter the houses. Hand cut elements were used to embellish the front of the houses along with one of the border stickers from the Merry & Bright Sticker Sheet. A border punch was used to create a decorative roof edge for each of the houses.

A touch of grunge was added to the Kaisercraft Lace. It was altered with gesso and Glimmer Mist and then attached along the front edge of the key.”

The wooden keys are only $5 and available in store now.

Journaling Classes

Its a bittersweet thing that Monday was the last of our 6 week Art Journaling class. I LOVED every week…and Jenny is a very enthusiastic teacher who has that special knack of turning the ordinary in to the extraordinary…. but it being the end of the year and concerts, school meetings, kindy orientation etc coming up I am glad I will now have a couple of Monday’s off 🙂

She FORCED us to draw faces and people free hand (and even though we grumbled a LOT – we did all actually enjoy it, and discovered we can do it.), we sprayed, inked, gesso’d, masked, ghosted, bleached, doodled, stencilled, drew and collaged our way through 6 weeks of classes. And we came out the other end feeling a lot more comfortable in our artiness.

Jenny is putting together a youtube video which will feature all our Journal pages and I will share it with you when its done :).

The good News is we will be running the class again early next year. There is a Tuesday morning option and a Monday night option. Please contact me (marijke@wholesalebrads.com / 0408 913684) to book or for further information.

To help inspire you have a look at this awesome video from Sandra v.d. Geest. I bet you will not look at nature magazine’s in the same way again!

What do you think? We will be creating something similar during the 6 week course….

A Smashing Sunday

Can’t believe its Sunday night already ….the weekends just seem to fly by quicker and quicker each week.

Today I had time to sit at my craft table and catch up a bit on my “Family Home” Smash Journal. I am creatng a journal which keeps track of all my our wants for the house we will start building next year. (Finally we will be first home owners 🙂 )

I wanted different sections in the journal for the different rooms in the house. Luckily for me the new WeR tab punches and stickers arrived in store this week.

Click here to see the full range available.

For my Smash book I used the Bracket punch and stickers.

The tabs are nice and sturdy too as they are covered in the perfect thick clear sticker.  Here is a short video featuring the new punches:

We have the full selection of punches and stickers in store now.

Wishing you all a Very Creative Week!

Mixed Media Fun

Good Evening!

On Monday nights we hold Art Journalling classes in our workroom. (the class is full but we are taking names for the next group. Please register your interest)

The starter kit is awesome (even if I do say so myself). Everyone received a tote, gel medium, mixed media sampler kit from Faber Castell, 3 different background stamps + lots more. (the kit ended up being worth just over $120!) But the main item in the kit is the beautiful Dyan Reavely Art Journal.

Dylusions Journal

These journals are so beautiful that there is actually a certain Lady (you know who you are Mrs P!) who is extremely hesistant to use it. She just wants to look, feel and smell it! But she has promised next week one page MIGHT get covered with some gesso 🙂

The whole kit + 6 weeks of classes costs $175.00 and is taught by the extremely talented Jenny. Her main aim is to push us all outside of our comfort zone and not to think.

We have a couple more Journals in stock – they are not listed online so please contact me if you would like to own one. They retail for $29.99

One of my favourite items to use on all mixed media has to be the Gelatos. Have you ever tried them? We have all the mix and match sets in stock (both online and in store).

Here is a short video demonstrating one of many techniques…

Aren’t they awesome?? There are many more techniques as well…I have a box of the colours in our workroom if you would like to see / touch them.

As well as the full gift box we also stock all of the mix and match sets. They can be found online by clicking here.

Also in stock or 2 different sizes of Pitt Pens. There is the skinny ones and the big brush. They can be found here.

New on the Web: Along with the gelatos and Pitt pens we have also just uploaded the Spectrum Noir Alcohol markers.

If you are looking for calligraphy pens, we do have various ones available from Faber-Castell but they are not listed online, just give me a ring / e-mail or drop in to the shop.

Wishing you all a very creative week….I need to try and finish 9 ATC cards by tomorrow night for a swap I’m in….

Spectrum Noir Alcohol Markers

About Spectrum Noir Banner

Spectrum Noir is the revolutionary alcohol coloring system brought to you by Crafter’s Companion.
The range combines affordability with versatility across a vast color spectrum which has been designed specifically for the crafting market, to make alcohol pen coloring achievable for colorists at all levels of confidence and ability.
Whether you’re brand new to coloring, or consider yourself to be an expert, the easy to follow coloring system allows you to choose perfect blends from within each color family to guarantee a perfect graduation of color in a professional way.
Each pen is double ended with a broad chisel nib for coloring vast areas or creating background effects, and a fine bullet nib for controlled and accurate coloring, even in the tiniest of areas. Each of these nibs is replaceable, or you can switch out for other nibs in the range as you advance in your coloring capabilities.
The Spectrum Noir system has been designed with longevity in mind, and for that reason, each of our pens is refillable so you’re investing in a system, as opposed to making a one-off purchase, which is both great for the environment, and also great for your pocket!
For more information, play the following video:

The packs of core pens are organized into color families with multiple blends in each pack making them great for beginners who want to achieve professional results without having to learn and understand color compositions. Simply follow the letter and number prefixes to select colors within the same family in varying intensities and blend in a circular motion to achieve three-dimensional effects.
The larger packs offer a range of colors across a broader spectrum to supplement the core selection, which all together covers the complete spectrum in 168 shades. And because the pens are refillable, you’ll only need each shade once, so you’ll never find any repetition of colors in the packs.
So for a system that offers you both exceptional value for money and top performance, look no further than Spectrum Noir – brought to you by Crafter’s Companion.
